Solar and Wind Power and Alternative Energy Information
Wind Power
Wind Power
Wind Power is the use of energy collected from the winds of the earth using windmills, wind turbines, aerogenerators, and any for of wind powered unit.
Wind Power can be used directly to turn mechanical grinders or pump water for example. Wind Power can also be converted to electricity by using wind-turbines, and subsequently stored in batteries or put into the electric grid for consumer use.
Wind Power can be a ready source of alternative energy with lower greenhouse gas emissions than other form of electric energy generation.
One of the disadvantages of Wind Power for large scale use is peoples objection to the effect of large wind-farms because of the visual effect on the environment. This can make the planning process for a large-scale wind farm difficult.
Another objection frequently made against wind turbines is the danger to birds and bats, though offshore wind farms that are more than 10 kilometres from land do not pose a risk for bats.
Wind power has been used by human beings to propel boats for more than 5000 years. Windmills first came into use to utilise wind energy in the seventh century AD.

Windbelt - Windbelt, Cheap Generator Alternative - This invention by Shawn Frayne is the Windbelt which is a generator alternative. It works by harnessing he power of the wind through vibration rather than rotation which is more commonly seen in wind turbines. This amazingly simple invention looks set to power the Third World.... with Wind Power.
